In 2000, Vince and Wendy Jones started and sponsored the King of the Hill Basketball Tournament at Prattville High School with the help of Coach Trent Miller. This was a low cost basketball tournament aimed at bringing kids together through basketball fostering teamwork, camaraderie, sportsmanship and friendship.

It is our intention to continue to provide a bigger and better tournament to the children here in Prattville and the surrounding area. This year, at the request of numerous parents we’ve lowered the age requirement to ten years of age in order to give more children an opportunity to participate. Any child 10-19 years of age who is attending school is eligible to compete in the Summer Slam basketball competition.

There will be one major tournament, The Prattville Summer Slam.

There will be several Summer Slam playoff rounds for the children to qualify to play in the Prattville Summer Slam Basketball Tournament.

The playoffs are set up so every child will be able to play on an equal playing field regardless of his or her skill level. There will be no stacked teams. Each team will be randomly selected and every child will have an opportunity to play. Each qualifying team will advance and have an opportunity to compete in the Prattville Summer Slam basketball tournament at the end of summer. The top team in each age group from the Playoff competition will advance to the Summer Slam Tournament. The remainder will be voted in via wild card selection. However, the only way to play in the Summer Slam Basketball Tournament is to qualify through competing in the Summer Slam Playoffs.

Prattville Summer Slam is supported by the City of Prattville, the Autauga County Commission and the Prattville Millbrook Rotary Club. The goal for this event is to provide a safe and competitive environment for children that foster teamwork and sportsmanship that will ultimately lead to life long friendships. Our aim is to Leave No Child Behind who wants to come out and participate regardless of whether he or she can afford to play organized sports. As we get ready to start the 2008 summer Slam season, we would like to invite you and your organization to come out and share the summer slam experience. Help make this year’s tournament a success by coming out and supporting the children as they compete for an opportunity to participate in the Prattville Summer Slam Basketball Championships for 2008.
